Artistic Bio
Cindy Houde – Visual Artist
I explore illustration, painting, sculpture, and photography, creating a universe where surrealism, femininity, and dreamlike intertwine. My works evoke a duality between softness and strangeness, playing on the fragile balance between beauty and ugliness. Working primarily in oil on canvas and watercolor, ink, and lead on raw paper, I develop a delicate style, marked by subtle nuances and meticulous linework. My approach to oil painting relies on transparent layers that bring depth and refinement to my compositions.
Inspired by John William Waterhouse and Symbolism, I cut and assemble images from the natural world—insects, birds, animals, flowers, and female figures—connecting them with sinuous lines that convey the idea of universal interconnectedness. Through my art, I seek to reveal that “we are nothing without whole,” highlighting the invisible links that unite every element of life. My work flirts with the mystery of the esoteric while being rooted in a quest for a rational and scientific understanding of the world.
Having graduated in visual arts with a bachelor's degree and certificate in 2016, I have traveled a path marked by resilience and the rediscovery of my artistic identity. After experiences in interior design, teaching, and herbalism entrepreneurship, I made the choice in 2024 to devote myself entirely to my artistic practice, considering creation as a vital necessity.
Today, I aim to reach a wide audience by offering original works and prints, while also fulfilling custom orders. I aspire to travel to nourish my imagination, discover new cultures, and enrich my visual universe. My ambition is to be recognized for my unique style and to establish a deep connection with collectors who feel and understand my art.
